 This is one of the rare acrylic paintings I've created. I began with a base of iridescent copper paint, allowed it to dry and then, as usual with my celestial creations, began to paint spontaneously.   The photo does not do this piece justice. I'm happy with how it turned out. Here's another painting that would be magnificent on a very large canvas....one of these days I will actually do it and stop talking about it...

Magical Angel was created intuitively/spontaneously from my imagination. I wasn't sure what I was going to paint. I began painting the black oval shape which is now the angel's face and the painting went from there, developing into the figure with wings...so I had this painting with a blank black oval face sitting there for quite some time without a defined face. One day, feeling brave enough and determined to finish it, I took a deep breath and once again, cleared my mind as best as I could and let my intuition just take over, one stroke at a time. I am happy with the result....always a new adventure...

I have this piece listed for a very reasonable price...just reduced to $399 and part of my studio clear-out effort.

This is a painting I completed some time ago and had upstairs in my stock of paintings that wouldn't fit in my studio. When I brought it down to have available at my Open Studio this Sunday, it looked completely different and I could really appreciate the atmosphere present. For me, there is an uplifting quality to this piece. Seeing it again brought back the memory of how I was feeling when I painted it. The photo is probably a bit lighter than the actual painting but, you get the idea.

This is one of my favorites in this series. I can honestly say that this type painting fascinates me. I really like the other styles I paint in but they don't engage my fascination.

I am hosting an Open Studio here at my country studio in Saratoga Springs this Sunday, August 16 from 1-4 pm. I'd love to meet some of you local folks. Most of my paintings are here for a very short duration as they are about to leave home to be displayed in several exhibits in September through part of November. Directions are at my website.

Here is the eighth in the "Zone Series." It was very interesting to discover that serpents, crows and images of outer space began to re-appear in these paintings. Also interesting is that whenever I view them, it is almost like looking at them for the first time! Always something new to discover. I'm beginning to realize that this is probably the most natural way for me to paint.

What a surprise this painting was...both as I was painting it and upon completion. Quite the adventure seeing what strange and wonderful images are birthed from me.

They have been graciously invited to be exhibited at a "House Of Creative Soul" a new and wonderful gallery in Saratoga Springs I've just become affiliated with today. I haven't exhibited this series anywhere to date and am glad they will all be together. The exhibit will be this Fall...I'll keep you posted when the details are firmed up.

This was the third piece I painted from "The Zone." It was very exciting to experience the evolution of this series. Since then, and since I began posting my daily paintings, I've slowed down with this style. It's been so frustrating for me to paint in four distinct styles, loving them all, and only one of me. Perhaps someday I will choose one and stay with it.

Here is another painting from my imagination. I didn't have anything in mind when I began to paint. I started 'fooling around' with burnt umber, disciplining my mind to stay clear, let go, and paint spontaneously. When the mountain forms appeared I began to add color and refine the composition. I experimented a bit with this painting. First the background was painted in with a transparent gold ochre along with the darker indigo color which was applied primarily with a little solvent as the medium. Then I crumbled a paper towel and began blotting it. Afterward, while the background was still wet I painted in the clouds with white which picked up the underlying colors. I like the result and will probably try this again at some point. I'm thinking about making the planet a brighter shade of red. What do you think? Any comments?

This painting just flowed from my brush and was a delight to paint. No struggle here. I sometimes imagine that I am a bird, soaring above the earth and observing everything from that vantage point. I have been a bit ADD as you can see from the variety of paintings at my blog this month..(link below) The only consistency is that I have been painting. I've mentioned this before...I don't think I could ever settle into one style or general subject matter with my work. I fall in love visually (inner and outer vision) with too many things to be confined...and...I've been criticized for it...but I really don't care...so there...

Another angel painted spontaneously which took many sessions to complete. Initially I'd finished painting everything but the face which was totally black. One of my daughters commented that it was 'freaking her out.' It was a little scary just sitting there with no face but I hadn't decided whether I wanted to put a face on her...I'm glad I did though. The detail version of this picture looks a bit washed out in this photo...at least on my computer. The colors are actually much richer.

This piece was painted a while ago. It is another spontaneous/intuitive painting that I began with keeping my mind as clear as I could and just beginning to paint...dipping my brush in the first color that comes to mind and going from there. The angels were an afterthought...it felt like something else was needed and, bingo...angels came to mind...

Here is another painting from my imagination. It flowed fairly well...no big struggle here. The biggest struggle was with naming it. I kept coming up with titles I'd already used with prior cosmic landscapes....then I recalled a newscast reporting the discovery of possible water on Mars, soil that has similarities to ours and the possibility of life.

A couple of posts ago I displayed this painting in progress and in error titled it Zone No.28 instead of 29...so here is the finished painting with an image of the last time I worked on it as well. I've decided I am willing to sell the original "zone" paintings. I'd been hesitant to do this. It is not in my nature to get attached to 'things' and that includes my paintings. My favorite part of this painting is the lower third. Hope you enjoy viewing it! I will go into my studio now and probably paint some clouds...although by the time I get there I may change my mind. We'll see...it's the adventure of the moment that I love...

Thought I'd be finished with this by now but I'm still working on it so... I thought I'd post my progress so far. I hope you enjoy seeing these paintings at the different stages of completion. I'm trying my best to be a 'good' daily painter. Hopefully I'll clear out enough around here so I can photograph and post daily.

I have another larger landscape I began on Tuesday so I'm a busy little girl. Yesterday, as I was driving home from my training appointment at the wonderful Apple Computer store and a visit with my daughter and granddaughter, I decided to take the lake route home. The clouds have been impressive this summer...huge, fluffy, highly defined, bright white and deep blue-grays. I took a few photos of cloud formations above the lake and can't wait to paint them. Oh...so many ideas and only one of me. I'll probably be singing this lament on my way to the pearly gates...

I've been contemplating some new "Painting From The Zone" workshops. I'll announce them when I've come to a concrete decision. The space I usually hold my workshops in at The Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY is going to be under construction. I have two weekends available in September and need to decide on what to present.
