The original painting of The Oracle was a large piece measuring 30 x 40 inches and painted on canvas. It is another piece created from my imagination and is being enjoyed by a very happy collector.  The only reference I used  was looking at my own mouth in a mirror when I needed a bit of help to paint her mouth or make her mouth look like a mouth...(smile...)

"Mother And Child" is number 13 in my series Painting From "The Zone." 

When I began this series and saw how these images were emerging, I decided I would not make any attempt to interpret the paintings. I just wanted them to be whatever they are and not limit them by designating meanings or interpretations. I didn't even really want to give them titles but it started getting very confusing after 29 of them because I wasn't able to continue associating the numbers with each painting. 

When I spontaneously painted a red bow in the little girls hair, I realized I'd just painted myself as a child. My mother used to put a little red bow in my hair from time to time. Nice surprise....

Well, Mother's Day has come and gone and I just realized my timing is a bit off. In any case,  this is a painting of what I believe I depicted as my mother and myself. The mother doesn't look like my mother at all but the very dark hair, red bow in the child's hair and red shoes were enough to hint that the child is me. 

Once again, let me reiterate that these paintings are totally spontaneous. I had no recollection until I painted the red bow and shoes that my mother loved putting red bows in my hair and a fairly traumatic experience took place when I was wearing little red patten leather shoes at the hospital when I had my tonsils taken out. Those memories hadn't been in my conscious mind for many many moons...but, the painting brought them back....very interesting, at least for me...

NOTE: I posted this painting yesterday (Tuesday) and am posting it again because I've gotten notices that subscribers were having some problems receiving my posts. I changed a setting which might have created the problem. Hopefully it is fixed now.

I really wanted to post a new painting but...toilet overflowed and I thought I lost my tax records for this year...lots of phone calls I needed to get back to and I need a nap now so I'm posting an older painting again.

This is yet another painting from my imagination...sort of. One night about 26 years ago as I was lying in bed with my eyes closed (not asleep) the image of the most beautiful woman I could ever imagine appeared to me out of the darkness. She was glowing in light in red-orange garb. The expression on her face was pure love, like nothing I'd ever seen or experienced before...and yet to. "The Oracle" was my first attempt years later to do her justice from memory. I didn't capture her essence though. If I did, I wouldn't have sold the original painting. Perhaps when and if I evolve more I will try again...

I'd mentioned in previous posts that I was working on a portrait of my granddaughter, Dominique. I thought I'd completed it a couple of weeks ago but wasn't 100% comfortable. Last week I put it back on the easel and made a minor change. I'm very happy with it now. Initially, I'd wanted to paint her portrait in a hoodie. She looks fantastic-mysterious when she's wearing a hood. I took a few hooded pics and then she sat on her porch, reached over and picked a flower from one of the hanging baskets and placed it over her ear...I quickly took the photo and it was perfect. I still want to paint her in a hood...
