This is a meadow I pass almost daily on my drive into the city of Saratoga Springs to pick up my mail, ship paintings out, anticipate interesting synchronistic events, run errands and generally break the pattern of being at home. It's rare that I stay home for a full day.

"Artists are just as important as doctors and nurses," says painter Marni California. "People need nourishing of their souls as well as their bodies; in Navajo culture the medicine man and artist are one and the same."

Golden Meadow, Landscape Oil Painting, Marina Petro

Golden Meadow
16 x 20
Oil painting by Marina Petro
SOLD

Golden Meadow was adopted by a very happy collector from my studio on Beekman Street last week. Click on the image for a larger view. Painting those little yellow dots was a meditative experience...dot...dot...dot...dot...dot....I thought it would take forever!

Prints on canvas or paper as well as greeting cards are now available at Fine Art America.

I was able to get someone to let me into the Saratoga Raceway Backstretch this morning. Haven't downloaded my photos to my computer yet and hope I've got some good shots for future paintings. I will try to get there again a few times before the season ends in early September. It is wonderful to see these magnificent creatures working out. Today I actually got close enough to pet one or two of them....sweet....

Today's Quotation:  "Humans who spend time in the wilderness, alone, without man-made mechanical noise around them, often discover that their brain begins to recover its ability to discern things." -Robert Anderson

Golden Meadow-Landscape Of A Beautiful Meadow with a Lone Tree-Original Oil Painting by Marina Petro

ARTIST~MARINA PETRO, SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY USA

"Golden Meadow"
16x20 inches
Original oil painting on canvas
Purchase securely at my ETSY SHOP or email me for other purchasing options.

This painting really has to be seen 'in person.' The meadow is composed of a million little dots. It was very relaxing to paint...dot...dot...dot... and on and on. It would be striking in a much larger version but would probably take 10 years to complete with all the dots. Hope you enjoy it. I'd like to remind you that my Open Studio will be taking place Sunday, November 22, from 1-4 pm. All prints and cards will be on sale, as well as a selection of original works. Hope to see some of you there!

Today's Quotation: patience, n. A minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue.

This landscape was inspired by a bog meadow I pass by on my daily trek into Saratoga Springs. It was challenging to paint on such a small canvas and capture the details on the trees.

This cheeful painting was inspired by a photo. I changed it quite a bit though. There was a bushy tree to the right which I eliminated and then painted in the red and violet flowers which were not in the photo.

Oil on gallery wrapped stretched canvas.
Painted around all sides. Can be hung without a frame if desired.
Email me to inquire about purchasing this piece.

This piece was painted from a photo I snapped en route to Saratoga Springs, NY along a marsh. I live in the quiet countryside surrounding Saratoga and trek into the city most days to get my mail, run errands and other fun stuff. Saratoga, a magical little city, is famous for it's summer throughbred horse racing, healing springs, and mineral baths.

"GOLDEN MEADOW" by Marina Petro

Here is another larger painting I've recently completed. The photos do not do it justice...they are a bit blurry. I need to photograph it again but wanted to post it today. I've been in battle with bronchitis for the past week and a bit 'spaced out' from the cough medicine and sleep deprivation...or is it the coughing that has rattled my brain? In any case, it's been difficult to paint, and when I have, I messed up my attempts quite exquisitely.

I am pleased with this painting though. In many ways, it was a meditative experience. I could call it 'One Million Yellow Dots' which would be fitting. I actually enjoy painting little dots. I tried to get a variety of yellows in the field. Doesn't the detail look like a neat little painting? I'm tempted to paint the detail onto it's own canvas. Oh, so many ideas and only one me...I hope you enjoy viewing it.

Again, I have named it "Golden Meadow" but if anyone has a better idea for a title, I would really appreciate your ideas.

Today's Quotation: "Beauty is everywhere, but one may see the beautiful view and the other sees a dirty window. You have the power within you to choose what you see, what you think and what you paint."

"MIDSUMMER" by Marina Petro

"Midsummer"
16x20
Oil on Canvas
email me for details and to purchase

This painting was catalyzed by a photo I saw in a gardening magazine. You wouldn't know it was the same picture though. The original photo had two trees, both with leaves. I added the flowers. I feel happy whenever I see it. Right now it is available as the original but I will be making prints and giclees on canvas shortly.

Today's daily quotation is from the book "The War Of Art" by Steven Pressfield. It is one of my favorites. I highly recommend it to everyone involved in any creative venture.

Daily Quotation: "Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would not otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance which no man would have dreamed would come his way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, magic, and power in it. Begin it now"

"Saratoga Bog"

"Saratoga Bog"
Oil On Stretched Gallery Wrap Canvas
Painted on all sides.
5 x 7 inches
$100

Purchase "Saratoga Bog" here

This is the first small landscape I've ever painted. It's going to take some time getting accustomed to painting so small. This piece was painted from a photo I snapped en route to Saratoga Springs, NY. I live in the quiet countryside surrounding Saratoga and trek into the city each day to get my mail, run errands and other fun stuff. Saratoga is famous for it's summer throughbred horse racing, healing springs, and mineral baths. The baths are wonderful...tubs are so deep you can actually float! The mineral water is carbonated...it's like bathing in warm champagne.
