This photo doesn't capture the subtleties of this painting either in color or detail, but you get the idea. I am a lover of mist. There are times when I'm working on a painting that isn't developing very well ...that's when I dip my brush in white paint and begin to rub in and paint over the passages I don't like. That's how I initially discovered that I paint mist really well! This isn't one of those paintings though....the mist was planned and deliberate. I've been told that mist and fog are difficult to capture....it seems to come naturally to me though....at least that's what I've been told....

Today's Quotatio: "I enter the world called real as one enters a mist."

Golden Meadow, Landscape Oil Painting, Marina Petro

Golden Meadow
16 x 20
Oil painting by Marina Petro
SOLD

Golden Meadow was adopted by a very happy collector from my studio on Beekman Street last week. Click on the image for a larger view. Painting those little yellow dots was a meditative experience...dot...dot...dot...dot...dot....I thought it would take forever!

Prints on canvas or paper as well as greeting cards are now available at Fine Art America.

I was able to get someone to let me into the Saratoga Raceway Backstretch this morning. Haven't downloaded my photos to my computer yet and hope I've got some good shots for future paintings. I will try to get there again a few times before the season ends in early September. It is wonderful to see these magnificent creatures working out. Today I actually got close enough to pet one or two of them....sweet....

Today's Quotation:  "Humans who spend time in the wilderness, alone, without man-made mechanical noise around them, often discover that their brain begins to recover its ability to discern things." -Robert Anderson

Here is another painting I would consider 'Healing Art." The colors and atmosphere convey a sense of peace. The greens I chose are the shades that are considered healing. There's also a lot of white which suggests spirituality and the higher mind. The violet/pink lily on the green stem combines spirituality, love, a mystical sense and is rising from the depths in its full beauty. I wish you could see the light coming through the larger leaf in the center that is rising up. There's no way my camera can capture it. If you click on the image, it should bring you to a larger version.

Today's Quotation:  "The senses are a kind of reason. Taste, touch and smell, hearing and seeing, are not merely a means to sensation, enjoyable or otherwise, but they are also a means to knowledge – and are, indeed, your only actual means to knowledge. "
~St. Thomas Aquinas
