The inspiration for this painting was a photograph I took at the YADDO ARTIST'S RETREAT  in Saratoga Springs, NY where I live.

"Magical Pond" is  a meditative, healing work of art....at least in my opinion.This painting is one of my favorites! It was painted from a photograph and yes, I made many of my own creative changes. It is quite impressive in 'real life.' Whenever I revisit this painting, I wonder whether I could actually paint the lily leaves so well again. They look so difficult! I'm not kidding either. I often think, 'Boy, did I get lucky with this one.' I'd recently purchased a new flat oil painting brush I wanted to try out. It turned out to be the perfect brush to render the leaves.

The inspiration for "Lotus" was the  lotus/water lily fountain  at YADDO Artist Retreat in Saratoga Springs, NY. This magnificent retreat was founded in 1900 by the financier Spencer Trask and his wife Katrina, herself a poet, Yaddo is an artists' community located on a 400-acre estate in Saratoga Springs, New York. Its mission is to nurture the creative process by providing an opportunity for artists to work without interruption in a supportive environment. 

"Lotus" contains the primary colors that are considered healing (green) , spirituality (white), enlightenment (yellow-gold) , love (pink) and intuition, deep contemplation (indigo).

From ancient times the lotus has been a divine symbol in Asian traditions representing the virtues of sexual purity and non-attachment.  Hindus revere it with the divinities Vishnu and Lakshmi often portrayed on a pink lotus in iconography. In the representation of Vishnu as Padmanabha (Lotus navel), a lotus issues from his navel with Brahma on it. Goddess Sarasvati is portrayed on a white-colored lotus.  Often used as an example of divine beauty, Vishnu is often described as the 'Lotus-Eyed One'. Its unfolding petals suggest the expansion of the soul. The growth of its pure beauty from the mud of its origin holds a spiritual promise.

This is one painting that seemed to take forever to complete, but I am happy with the result. My favorite part of this piece is the one upturned pod leaf in the center. The light just glows from within...difficult to see in this photo though...It is presently being displayed in the cafe at"Four Seasons" on Phila Street in Saratoga Springs. Stop in and take a look if you are in the area...

This was another challenging painting. I painted it a while ago while I was still under the guidance of my teacher. The lotus flower was painted in last, after I decided it would enhance the painting. My teacher suggested I leave the flower out....what do you think? One of my favorite parts of this painting is the light coming through the larger upturned lily pad near the center of the painting. It is hard to see the light coming through in this photo but it glows and I love it....

This is a companion piece to 'Magical Pond' that I posted yesterday. The light illuminating the wide upturned leaf near the center can truly only be appreciated 'in person.' It shines through gently but powerfully.  I consider this and yesterday's post 'healing art.' What do you feel when you view them? The colors used are the primary colors considered 'healing colors'....green and white, which is a color that denotes things of the spirit. The flower is in the pink/magenta category which corresponds to love.

I've added Andrea's Lillies to my collection of paintings available as prints and greeting cards at Fine Art America. 

This painting was inspired by a photograph my daughter, Andrea, took at the beautiful Yaddo Artist Retreat in Saratoga Springs, NY.   I live in Saratoga Springs and will be going there with my camera soon. The original painting was recently purchased by a hospital in Saratoga Springs for their permanent collection. It will be displayed in the Orthopedic Surgery floor with three of my other paintings. I am happy that recovering patients and their families will have access to it. The space they will be displayed in is under construction and I'll take pics of all my babies when they are on the wall and provide more details.

This is one of my works that I consider 'Healing Art"... why?....how do you feel when you view it? The colors I used are the primary colors considered 'healing colors.' Green is the primary healing color, white denotes spirituality and higher consciousness, and the pink/rose is the color of love.

I just added "Andrea's Lillies" to my collection of paintings at Fine Art America. It is now available as a print on canvas or paper in a variety of sizes at very reasonable cost. Greeting cards are also available.

I painted this piece from a reference photo my daughter, Andrea, took at the Yaddo Artist's Retreat in Saratoga Springs, NY. It has been purchased by a hospital for their permanent collection. I am delighted that recovering surgical patients and their stressed out loved ones will be viewing it. More specific information on this to come when it is announced locally.

This beautiful work was created from a photo my daughter, Andrea, took on the grounds of  the Yaddo Artist Retreat in Saratoga Springs, NY...my current home town.

It's not possible to appreciate the beauty of this painting from the photographs. My ongoing attempts to improve my painting skills and patience culminated in this painting. Notice the little heart shape just above the leaves toward the bottom right...this is actually how this spark of light appeared in the original photograph! Amazing, isn't it! I like to think it represents the love I have for my daughters and granddaughter, who are my greatest blessings in this life.

This painting is leaving home for the month of May to be exhibited at The Saratoga Visitor's Center in Saratoga Springs, NY along with twenty of my other paintings. Stop in if you're in town. They would love to see you.

Here is another painting I would consider 'Healing Art." The colors and atmosphere convey a sense of peace. The greens I chose are the shades that are considered healing. There's also a lot of white which suggests spirituality and the higher mind. The violet/pink lily on the green stem combines spirituality, love, a mystical sense and is rising from the depths in its full beauty. I wish you could see the light coming through the larger leaf in the center that is rising up. There's no way my camera can capture it. Here is another painting created with painstaking focus. It is worth the effort when I discipline myself to try something more difficult like this that takes a storehouse of patience. I did the best I could with this photograph but it still doesn't show the beautiful subtle light shining through the leaves. I haven't painted as much as I would have liked to over the past two weeks and I'm an unhappy little girl  because of it. I'll get back into gear after the holidays.

Picture here cannot do this painting justice. It is difficult to capture the subtle light shining through some of the leaves with my camera. This was another very challenging painting to create and I am very pleased with the result. I am learning patience with these works that are not done in my very familiar spontaneous intuitive way of painting. I've heard Aries individuals were not on the receiving line when patience was being given out.... When I view this piece, it brings me to an instant state of calmness...
