"Eclipse Of The Moon" is another  painting created intuitively moment to moment by choosing the first colors I am attracted to and beginning to paint spontaneously from my spirit. I am very happy with this painting.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes directly behind the Earth into its shadow. This can only occur when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so with the earth in the middle. Therefore, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon.

Several cultures have myths related to lunar eclipses. The Egyptians saw the eclipse as a sow swallowing the moon for a short time; other cultures view the eclipse as the moon being swallowed by other animals, such as a jaguar in Mayan tradition, or a three legged toad in China. Some societies thought it was a demon swallowing the moon, and that they could chase it away by throwing stones and curses at it....

Flow...that's what comes to mind today when I think about how I feel when painting these celestial pieces. Everything seems to flow...most times in an unobstructed way. It's rare that I have difficulty painting these.

Here is another ultra-original Painting From "The Zone" Series. When I began this series, I found it almost impossible to come up with titles for these works...so....I numbered them. This one was originally Number 17. It is only recently that I forced myself to come up with titles for a variety of reasons, mostly practical. For the life of me I couldn't associate the numbers with the paintings and it became frustrating.

Here's another product of my very fertile imagination. I need to paint. That's just how it is. At times, I need to paint something that will be relaxing when I'm really stressed out. That's when I usually decide to paint something spontaneous without knowing what the outcome will be, as I did with this painting.

It might have to do with bringing harmony in the midst of chaos. These spontaneous paintings always begin in chaos. I dip my brush into the first color that attracts me and go from there... smushing on paint without a plan...just following my instinct, moment to moment.  As the work continues, there's a point that is reached where all the elements need to be brought  to a harmonious state. That's where the healing part of painting and most creative endeavors takes place....bringing the piece to a harmonious whole.

It would be fun for me to know how they are perceived. In a way, I've made it more difficult for myself because I cannot remember which painting goes with each number...oh well...

How would you categorize these paintings from "The Zone?"
Abstract? Visionary? Outsider? Intuitive?
Whenever I ask no one seems to truly know. Any ideas out there? You can email me with them. (link is below) It's been suggested that I call them 'outsider art' as I am self taught and have had no formal training. What I do know is that they are very exciting and relaxing to paint. The relaxing element has to do with keeping focused solely on the process and not the outcome.
