A serene landscape painting featuring a calm body of water running through the middle. On both sides of the waterway, rich, vibrant bushes dotted with purple and pink flowers frame the scene. The sky above is expansive, with a soft, cloudy texture that gives a sense of depth and tranquility. A subtle sun is slightly obscured by the clouds, casting a gentle, diffuse glow over the entire scene. The painting evokes a peaceful, almost dreamlike atmosphere, capturing the quiet beauty of a natural setting.

This cheerful painting was created plein air (outdoors) during a Plein Air Festival this weekend in the Village Of Round Lake in upstate, New York. It was a beautiful end-of-summer day. I was painting in front of a home with the most beautiful display of flowers in town! Lucky me to have found it.

I experimented with acrylic paint for this piece and I'm very happy with the result!

I was feeling kind of 'stuck' when I went into my studio the day I began painting this serene piece. I was having difficulty deciding what to paint so I chose to paint a theme that is created spontaneously / intuitively and something I'm always comfortable. Just not in the mood to go beyond my comfort zone that day. I consider HEAVENLY GARDEN "Healing Art" because of the sense of uplifting, serenity and peace it evokes when viewed.

I began painting "Joyful Garden" this past weekend in Vermont while attending a palette knife workshop presented by Cynthia Rosen.  I completed it on my return home. The inspiration for this painting was a photo of one of my beautiful gardens. I am looking forward to painting more floral pieces outdoors this year... spring through autumn.

This  painting was quite the challenge! It took several sessions to complete. When there is a considerable amount of white and black in a painting such as this, I have to wait a couple of days between sessions for each of these slow drying colors to set enough to paint over or into them.

Did you know the hibiscus flower can universally mean that it is a nice summer? In Europe, during the Victorian era and up to today, the meaning of the hibiscus flower is "delicate beauty." It is the state flower of Hawaii and generally given to visiting state officials. It's symbolizes Old Royalty and is a flower that brings power and respect. In Japan, it's meaning is "gentle."

It is difficult to comprehend how much time has passed since I painted "Still Life With Urn." It was created from a still life setup at a class I was auditing at Skidmore College back in the 90's!!!  I've never exhibited it so it hasn't been seen very much at all....it's been hiding in my studio with a few other shy friends.

I painted "Last Days Of Autumn" outdoors a week or so ago right in the center of the town of Ballston Spa, NY. There was a small parking lot that overlooked this scene. Perfect place for painting because I could park, take my gear out of the car, set up and paint without having to drag a heavy cart for any distance. Stewarts was right across the street too. Truly fulfilled it's label as a convenience store.

Now...I am not 100% sure that I've finished the painting. I'd appreciate any comments about this and also, if another title comes to mind, let me know. So, does it look finished to you?

"INFERNO" is another painting created spontaneously from my very very active creative imagination. As with most of my abstract and dreamy/spiritual type paintings, I begin by dipping my brush into the first color that attracts me and begin to paint...and on and on like that until a finished painting emerges. This one started with the dark red color at the top left of the painting.

I'd originally titled this one-of-a-kind painting  "Genesis" but recently changed the title to "The First Angel" because whenever I looked at it lately I kept seeing an angel emerging from the light.

"The First Angel" is being offered with a beautiful 3 1/2 inch antique frame which, in itself, is worth about $300 if not more.....

This painting was created spontaneously from my imagination. I didn't have anything in mind when I began to place colors on the canvas. I simply began painting, following my creative instinct each moment, and this is what resulted! It's always such a great adventure and surprise when I've completed these spontaneous/intuitive works. I am happy with it and hope you enjoy viewing it as well.

"Full Bloom"  I continue to enjoy creating these floral paintings with ink. It is such a departure from working in oil paint. I just choose the colors I am attracted to initially and then start dipping my brush and moving paint around. The inks run and blend in ways that are a surprise...mostly a pleasant surprise but sometimes really ghastly....you don't see those...

I began painting "A Peaceful View" outdoors at the edge of Saratoga Lake in Saratoga Springs, NY. It began to get a bit too cold for me to continue so I finished it up in my nice warm studio. 

This was a particularly difficult painting to photograph correctly. It almost matches the original (on my monitor) but not quite. The white areas in the clouds are a bit whiter than what appears in this photo.

...AND ON A HUMOROUS NOTE...

As I was driving back home from town (Saratoga Springs, NY) along the beautiful country roads, I came to the top of the hill on Staffords Bridge Road heading toward Southard Road where a large expanse of acres and acres of meadow/farmland that had recently been mowed came into view. Mind you, I make this drive almost every day and have been for the 18 years I've been living in my home. 

Well today I had the funniest thought that took hold and.... I had to restrain myself from driving off the road and onto this wonderful meadow. I imagined the owner of the farmland trying to stop me but I ignored him until the police came and arrested me for whatever the crime was for driving all over it and refusing to stop. I continued to entertain myself with this fantasy until I got home...maybe I will indulge myself and actually do it some other day.......that's all...

So here is another example of a spontaneous painting from my imagination. I have been thinking in terms of creating these celestial paintings on considerably larger canvases. These seem to come more naturally to me than most of the other styles and subject matter I work with. 

It is difficult to capture the essence, details and accurate color in photographs. This is as close as I could get. Of course the painting is much more beautiful in person.....
