Well this is one bird that didn't want to be photographed by my trusty Canon. I've tried photographing her many times in a variety of lighting situations but every time, her face was washed out. I finally had her professionally photographed. She is currently hanging out with my other creations at my studio/gallery at 79 Beekman Street in Saratoga Springs, NY. If you are in the area, stop in and say hello. She's been getting a LOT of attention there. 

I can't see what you see on your monitors. On mine, she looks a little dark but I am hesitant to make any color changes. 

Firebird is another Phoenix Rising that was born from my imagination. It is not a new painting. I've had yet another phoenix in the recesses of my mind which is the most powerful depiction of all. I have avoided making an attempt to paint it. I suppose I will when the spirit moves me and the time is right.

This is the second phoenix rising I've painted. For years, I've had another image of the phoenix that I'd like to paint. I haven't attempted it yet, though. I am a bit chicken. It will be like no other phoenix. I can feel its energy and presence around me often and I'm just waiting for the familiar intuitive 'signal' I get when it's really time to do something. In any case, all of you will be the first to see it...

Last year, Sal Maiolatesi, owner of Maiolatesi Wine Cellars in Pennsylvania emailed me requesting permission to use the image of my "Phoenix Rising" painting for a special, limited edition, wine collection. Sal's winery burned to the ground in a devastating fire. The phoenix was chosen to represent resurrection from the ashes and new life. They are rebuilding and the "Phoenix Collection" has been born. The phoenix is one of the more powerful symbols of renewal and rebirth. It is defined as a mythical bird of great beauty fabled to live 500 or 600 years in the Arabian wilderness, to burn itself on a funeral pyre, and to rise from its ashes in the freshness of youth and live through another cycle of years: often an emblem of immortality or of reborn idealism or hope. Very fitting for these times...
