I found these root vegetables at our local Farmer's Market. I had fun shuffling them around on my counter while deciding on a composition. There are those times when I begin a painting enthused, but sometimes doubting whether I will do the subject matter justice. This was one of them.

Today's Quotation: Many people die with their music still in them. Why is this so? Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out.

I just brought this painting home from an exhibit and thought I'd post it. The gourds, vegetables and apples are in great abundance here in upstate New York. It is such colorful time of the year. I painted this piece a while ago when I was still painting large still lifes. I've been primarily focusing on smaller works since getting on board with the daily painters and now I'm curious about what I'd put together for a new larger still life. Wish there were 5 of me. I'd be able to paint everything I get excited about...

Today's Quotation: "Care less for your harvest than for how it is shared and your life will have meaning and your heart will have peace."

"Eggplant" by Marina Petro

Artist ~ Marina Petro, Saratoga Springs, NY USA

Eggplant
7" x 5" (17.8cm x 12.7cm)
Oil on Panel
$100 plus $10 shipping and handling in the US

My mind is blank in terms of saying anything about this painting specifically other than I like the little 'dent' just above the long highlight on the far right which is almost imperceptible. Eggplant is an ingredient in a favorite recipe. It consists of cut up zucchini, eggplant, onion, garlic, peppers and tomatoes. Saute everything in olive oil...tomatoes get sauteed separately. Put it all in a pot, simmer VERY slowly for a while and serve over your favorite pasta.

I haven't seen any of my 'daily painting' online buddies (a couple of hundred) paint a zucchini. Perhaps I will paint one soon and be the first. Why not zucchinis, I wonder? Now I'll be thinking about zucchinis and why no one has painted them...better than some of the other things I obsess about I suppose...

Today's Quotation: "Just as our taste in lovers is far more revealing than our choice of friends, the object of an artist's obsession can open up doors to their soul that might otherwise remain shut tight."
