Family Portrait, "Still Life Oil Painting," Marina Petro

Family Portrait
20" x 20"

Original oil painting on 1.5" canvas painted around all sides-does not need a frame
Still Life Fruit Series

Only one in the entire universe...and it could be yours!

Details and purchasing information HERE or EMAIL me for other purchasing options and inquiries.
Certificate Of Authenticity provided with every original painting.

Thought I'd stay in keeping with the family fruit series again today...this is the last one and one of my favorites. Family Portrait is considerably larger than the others and makes quite a bold statement. I'd painted a smaller version a couple of years ago which sold almost immediately to a collector with one child.

For those of you who live locally, remember....it is First Saturday (5-8 pm) in The Arts District on Beekman Street. My studio which is part of the Beekman Artist's Studios at 79 Beekman St. has invited the Jay Street Drummers. They will be drumming in our beautiful courtyard. Hope to see some of you there!

Today's Quotation: "Learn to nurture and trust your instincts as well as your conscious reasoning. Often, one's instincts will offer the better judgment."

Family Portrait-Still Life Oil Painting of Three Pears by Marina Petro

Family Portrait
20 x 20 inches
Oil on 1-1/2" gallery wrapped stretched canvas, painted black around all sides.

Purchase securely HERE or EMAIL ME for other purchasing options and inquiries.

Here is another of my favorites. I had painted a smaller 6x6 inch version of it some time ago which sold quckly. Recently, As I mentioned in my last post, I decided to paint larger versions of some of my favorite smaller pieces I'm painting these larger still life versions on 20" x 20" gallery wrapped canvas. They will not need framing. The original piece was 6" x 6" on canvas panel. I've now completed one more and am working on another. I'll post them soon.

If you would like a larger version of any still life painting I've done in the past, EMAIL ME. These larger versions are priced very reasonably.  CLICK HERE to see the smaller versions at my website. There are two pages. I'm limiting this offer to still life paintings because almost everything else has been born spontaneously from my imagination and would be extremely difficult to replicate...

Included in this issue is information about a film, being shown that takes a spiritual journey into the science behind psychic phenomena, news from the studio...paintings to inspire you, a really good laugh...and more...

Today's Quotation: "We spend most of our time and energy in a kind of horizontal thinking.  We move along the surface of things...[but] there are times when we stop.  We sit still. We lose ourselves in a pile of leaves or its memory.  We listen and breezes from a whole other world begin to whisper.  --  James Carroll

Red Pears on Mexican Pottery Dish Oil Painting-Marina Petro

Red Pears On Talavera Pottery Dish
6x8
Oil painting on archival Raymar canvas panel
SOLD

Another painting created on a dish my daughter, Joy, let me borrow. Wish I'd taken some reference pictures for future paintings, as she no longer has the dish. In any case, I'm happy with how this piece turned out.

I delivered paintings to Fortune's Restaurant, overlooking the trotters racetrack at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway this afternoon.  I'm glad they will be on display for two months because it was a bit of an ordeal getting them all there. Fortunately, someone else from the establishment is hanging them, so I was off the hook for that and very relieved. As soon as they are up, I'll take some pics and post them. Hope some of you can make it over there. I'm calling the exhibit "Visions Of Heaven & Earth"

Today's Quotation:  "One must have the adventurous daring to accept oneself as a bundle of possibilities and undertake the most interesting game in the world - making the most of one's best."

Pears And Grapes-Fruit Still Life Oil Painting by Marina Petro

Pears And Grapes
6x8
Oil Painting on stretched canvas-painted around all sides and does not need a frame.
Purchase securely at my ETSY SHOP or EMAIL me for other purchasing options and inquiries

Artist~Marina Petro, Saratoga Springs, NY USA

When all else fails, I paint pears...my favorite fruit to paint besides lemons. I made a lame attempt to clean up my studio this afternoon with some help from a friend....but, decided to wait until most of my work is off the walls and floor, visiting the Jonesville Country Store in Clifton Park and Fortunes at the Racino in Saratoga Springs. The exhibit at Fortunes is the larger one and will feature a variety of paintings in my different styles...including four paintings from "The Zone" I'll take pictures once it is up and post them.

This is just one of those days that I don't have much to say about anything. I need to get into my studio to paint and 'chill' out...

Pears & Grapes by Marina Petro

"Pears & Grapes"
6x8 inches
Original oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas, painted around all sides.
Email me to inquire about purchasing this piece.

I am not crazy about the background color with this painting but decided to leave it regardless. What I have found consistently is that very often, what I don't particularly like is something someone else loves. Paintings I thought would never sell, sold sooner than the ones I thought would fly out of here, or wherever they were. I thought the very first angel painting I did years ago (Angel Descending) was terrible. It sold immediately and continues to be one of the most popular cards and prints I have.

Today's Quotation: "Painting seems to be my obsession. I feel some resentment at all the other things in life that take me away from my studio. This obsession constantly judges all other calls on my time and energy."
-Sue Cowan

"LADYBUG" by Marina Petro

"Ladybug"
6x6 inches
Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel
Sold
I though this painting was finished when I completed painting the two pears.
I liked it well enough, but thought it needed something else. I pondered for a few moments and then a ladybug popped into my mind. Now I'm very happy with it. Hope you like it too.

Daily Quotation: "The breeze at dawn has secrets to tell you; Don't go back to sleep. You must ask for what you really want; Don't go back to sleep. People are going back and forth across the doorsill where the two worlds touch. The door is round and open. Don't go back to sleep.

"PERSIMMONS & PEARS" by Marina Petro

"Persimmons & Pears"
16"x20" Oil on canvas
Email me for purchasing options.

A bit more complicated still life than I usually undertake. It was a challenge keeping 'my place' while painting the design on the fabric. I will be painting another small piece with this fabric soon...most likely without the folds.

In yesterday's post I asked for suggestions for another title for "Yellow Napkin" (below) Thanks to Rob Hazzard, another daily painter,it is now "Happy Hour."

Today's Quotation: "Being an artist is like being an Olympic athlete: years of sweat and dedication to build up skills, lots of sacrifice along the way, lots of obstacles to overcome. All that, and no gold, silver, or bronze medals."
-Theresa Bayer

"THE SHIELD" by Marina Petro

"The Shield"
6x6 inches
Original Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel

SOLD
This painting looks much better 'in person' than in this photo. I wanted to call it 'The Guardian' but I already had a painting with fruit with that title as well as an angel painting. Finding fruit with leaves still attached is rare and when I find them, I am very happy.

Today's Quotation: "Composer, sculptor, painter, poet, prophet, sage – these are the makers of the after-world, the architects of heaven. The world is beautiful because they have lived. Without them, laboring humanity would perish." -James Allen

"PEAR" by Marina Petro

"PEAR"
6x8 inches
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Stretched Canvas
Sold
I've been getting subtle suggestions at home about painting something other than pears...but, as usual, I listen and then do whatever pleases me. As long as my local Price Chopper Supermarket miraculously delivers one pear in the bin with a leaf still attached like they did again today, I will keep painting pears and pray they live until I can get to them. So, folks, there are more pears coming soon. I check out all the fruit bins when I am there. I'd love to find an apple or peach with a leaf. Maybe next time... I am pleased with how this painting turned out. Hope you like viewing it too.

As I was moving my stash of fruit around the kitchen counter deciding what to paint, these two little critters lined up with their leaves facing each other just like this. I started to laugh...gossip immediately came to mind...so here it is!

"RED, WHITE & BLUE" by Marina Petro

"Red, White & Blue"
6x8 inches
Original oil painting on Raymar Canvas Panel
Purchase at eBay here or email me for other purchasing options.

I finished this painting about a week ago but have been lax in photographing my paintings. Thought this would be the perfect post for today's inauguration. I just couldn't get the photo to truly represent this piece. It is actually more vibrant than what is depicted here. I will try scanning it at a later time. The pears were painted on a decorative paper background which I'll probably use again with different models. Hope you enjoy it.

"PREGNANT PEAR" by Marina Petro

"The Pregnant Pear"
Original oil painting on 6x6 Raymar canvas panel
$99 + Shipping
When I originally posted this painting I wasn't able to list it at ebay due to a glitch. I had more success today. If you are interested in purchasing it you can email me or bid at ebay here.

Hope you enjoy viewing it.

I love the following quotation. I discovered it in a book my daughter, Joy, gave me: WabiSabi-The Art of Everyday Life by Diane Durston.

I tried listing this on ebay but ran into some frustrating glitches there.

What a pleasure it was to discover this little lady at our local Price Chopper supermarket! Simple pleasures. It's compulsive now. Whenever I enter a grocery store, I head for the fruit bins to see if there's anything unusual waiting to be immortalized in paint. I'm very happy with how this painting turned out.

I sure hope I'll be able to post more often soon. I just love the following quotation. I just discovered in a book my daughter, Joy, gave me: WabiSabi-The Art of Everyday Life by Diane Durston.

The more I look at this painting, the more I like it. It's a happy piece. I enjoy painting fruit and vegetables on fabric and am always on the lookout for fabrics with interesting patterns.

Todays Quotation: "I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities."

"TIPSY" by Marina Petro

"Tipsy"
6x8 inches
Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel
$100
SOLD

It was a little tricky getting these little tipsy pears to stay put long enough to paint them. I must be a curious sight to other shoppers at the supermarket fruit bins as I thoughtfully pick up one piece of fruit after another...sometimes contemplating them in my outstretched palm...other times balancing them on the closest flat surface I can find...moving them around in different positions...It's fun!

I hope this painting displays it's rich colors on your computer screen. I am the very happy owner of a Macintosh computer but what I see may not be what you see if you have a Windows computer.

"THREE PEARS" by Marina Petro

"Three Pears"
6x8 inches
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
$100
Purchase at ebay here
or...email me for other arrangements.

I've posted this painting before but thought I'd post it again today. I've slowed down a bit with the heat wave we've been in. Didn't feel much like photographing anything new. This does seem to be a slow period on all accounts. I'm working hard recreating my new website and hope to have it up and running soon. Most of my artwork will be reflected there, including my paintings from "The Zone" and most of the daily paintings.

I also have a four-week "Master Your Intuition" workshop coming up next month that needs to be promoted so...I'm a busy girl.

Today's Quotation: "To a nonpainter, oil paint is uninteresting and faintly unpleasant. To a painter, it is the life's blood: a substance so utterly entrancing, infuriating, and ravishingly beautiful that it makes it worthwhile to go back into the studio every morning, year after year, for an entire lifetime."

"SLOW DANCE" by Marina Petro

"Slow Dance"
6x6 inches
Original Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel
$100
Purchase here

It's so much fun when I can find fruit to illustrate human activities. These pears appeared a bit mutant when I discovered them...but they intrigued me. As I was shuffling my fruit on the counter deciding on a composition, these pears fit hand-in-glove and made me smile when I thought of them as slow dancing. Now I'm going to have a hard time eating them...Hope they bring a smile to your face too...
