"Delicate Beauty"  almost ended up in the trash at one point. I am still a novice working with India Inks and at first, this creation was a disaster. I wasn't going to give up too easily so I brought it to the kitchen sink and began to scrub off some of the paint....and....this is the result.  I'm very glad I didn't trash it.

Today's Quotation: "Sometimes you get the best light from a burning bridge."

This painting was a bit of a challenge...actually, many of them are. When there is a considerable amount of black and white in a painting such as this, I have to wait a few days in between sessions for each of these slow drying colors to set enough to paint over them.

On another note....Did you know the hibiscus flower can universally mean that it is a nice summer? In Europe, during the Victorian era and up to today, the meaning of the hibiscus flower is "delicate beauty." It is the state flower of Hawaii and generally given to visiting state officials. It's symbolizes Old Royalty and is a flower that brings power and respect. In Japan, it's meaning is "gentle."

Today's Quotation: "Every day we should hear at least one little song, read one good poem, see one exquisite picture, and, if possible, speak a few sensible words."
-Goethe

"Grieving" is the 11th painting I completed in this series.
As I begin each painting, it is with the intention of keeping my mind as clear and free of any preconceived ideas and just dip my brush into the first color that attracts me and follow the movement from brain to hand to canvas or paper. The results are always a complete surprise!

When I finished this painting, I realized that I'd painted a coffin/sarcophagus image with a figure in it. The figure in the middle of the painting appeared to be grieving. Not long afterward, my mother passed away. She was born in Egypt.

Today's Quotation: "Angels are often found on the backs of the least likely people."

So here's another painting from "My Zone." ...and...one of my favorites. Snakes have been one of the consistent images that appear in this series of adventure and discovery.

The serpent or snake is one of the oldest and most widespread mythological symbols. In some cultures, snakes were fertility symbols. In religion, mythology and literature, serpents and snakes represent fertility or a creative life force. As snakes shed their skin through sloughing, they are symbols of rebirth transformation, immortality and healing...

Today's Quotation: "Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure...than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."
-Theodore Roosevelt
