Besides the color combination, my favorite parts of this painting are the leaf, stem and very top of the pear. I would imagine that most artists have their favorite little sections.

Did you know that in Christian symbolism, the pear symbolizes Christ's love for mankind? Neither did I until this morning when I did a search on 'pear symbolism' and the website for Symbols in Christian Art And Literature popped up...intriguing!

Pears have been cultivated and enjoyed for thousands of years. Homer referred to them as a "gift from the gods" in the Odyssey.

Today's Quotation: "A man watches his pear tree day after day, impatient for the ripening of the fruit. Let him attempt to force the process, and he may spoil both fruit and tree. But let him patiently wait, and the ripe pear at length falls into his lap!"

This painting is one of my personal favorites...waiting to be adopted into a good home. I am very happy with how it turned out. The small pear depicted is season again but I haven't found one with a leaf attached. I will keep looking for one though. Leaves add so much more interest.

Today's Quotation:  "You are a bearer of the Light, for you are as the Divine Mother, bearing within you the Light of the Son.  Take this light out into the world to bless and to heal, and quicken the vibrations of the whole earth."
-White Eagle, from the book, "The Quiet Mind"

I like the shot of color the pear provides against the dramatic black and white zebra skin pattern. Life has been a series of 'situations' for myself and studio mates at 79 Beekman Street in Saratoga. We've finally been able to come up with a schedule for staying open at least for the racing/tourist season  for the month of August. Our studio hours are 10-7. I am planning to be there most days from 12:30 - 4. If you are in the area, stop in for a visual treat. Beekman Street is so beautiful in the summer with flowers lining the streets of the shops and galleries.

Today's Quotation: "The simplicity of form, the drama of rich, intense colour, the joy of challenge, and the challenge of endurance... The piece, when it is over, is not what is made, but how it is made."
-Andrew Kuntz

There are those times when my mind is blank with regard to commenting about a painting...and this is one of those times. I'm jumping out of my skin to get into my studio and work on a painting I started yesterday.

I've been inundated with ideas for paintings in each style and medium I work with. It is driving me a bit mad. It's something I truly don't know how to resolve or if it even requires resolving.  I love experiencing the constant inspired state...but... it does get overwhelming at times. It's like painting 4 paintings in my head all at the same time and then the visual stimulation when I'm out and about.  I sometimes consider just making a decision about painting in one style and staying with it for 6 months just to see what evolves...we'll see...

Today's Quotation: "I do not pursue art. It pursues me. It dogs me throughout my day and never rests. It is the beast I must feed that is never content. I did not choose to be an artist, to create, to express what is in my head. It chose me and I am its slave."

Original still life oil painting~painted around all sides.

I have been taking loads of reference photos for my still life paintings and hope to actually get to painting them soon. I've been caught up in some of the 'details' of life and haven't been painting as much as I need to. I did go to painting class this morning and made progress on a landscape with a birch grove. It should take one more session to complete.

Today's Quotation: "O, how much simpler things would be / If eyes could paint or brush could see."

Original oil painting on archival Raymar canvas panel

I love the way the bright yellow lemons play against the purple/violet shades of the fabric in this painting.  After yesterday's post with all the information about lemons, I am drawing a blank so I will sign off for now. It's been a busy day...

Today's Quotation: "The way of a creative mind is always positive, it always asserts; it does not know the doubts which are so characteristic of the scientific mind."

Lemon-Still Life Fruit Oil Painting by Marina Petro

Artist~Marina Petro, Saratoga Springs, NY USA
"Lemon"

Original still life oil painting on archival Raymar canvas panel

I was so happy to find actual fresh lemon leaves at our local florist to use with this painting. Here in the northeast, we never have the opportunity to purchase lemons or most other fruit with their leaves still attached. I love lemons and use fresh lemon juice on many foods. Poached eggs with lemon and pepper is delicious...at least for me.

Did you know that the lemon is considered a symbol of longevity, purification, love, and friendship? Here's a very interesting article by Liz Rizzo, "Have You Hugged Your Lemon Today?" which has just about everything you'd want to know about lemons, including symbolism in art, healing remedies, and home remedies and recipes.

Today's Quotation: "I do my best work and have the most fun when I'm not sure exactly where I'm heading. The process of discovery is exhilarating."
