This painting was inspired by a grove of flowers spotted on my latest astral journey on the west side of  Jupiter on my way to Mars. I wasn't able to paint it on the spot so I created it from memory when I returned to Saratoga Springs....

Oil paint is what I primarily use and am most comfortable with...the way it blends, the smooth and sensual quality when applying paint to canvas, the way it blends and the fact that it doesn't dry quickly. I like to diverge from time to time and experiment with acrylic and other paints. This was one of these experiments. I know I've been mentioning that I am leaning toward exploring painting more abstract works...stay tuned...I probably will soon...curious to see what emerges...

I have finally finished uploading ALL of my paintings from "The Zone" to FINE ART AMERICA where you can view and purchase any image in this series as a high quality print on paper, canvas, or as a greeting card. Twenty-Two is one of my favorites. It's only recently that I've decided to put this series out for sale. I'd been keeping them close for some time and am willing to let them be adopted now. These paintings are truly one-of-a-kind. 

When I began painting this series in this new intuitive style I've explored, I decided not to give them titles, so I numbered them. But...I'd love to hear what you would title this painting (and any of the others)...just email me. I am so curious....

I will be giving a weekend workshop in Painting From "The Zone" on October 2 & 3.

The most difficult aspect of this painting was coming up with a title which I did about 5 minutes ago when I listed it at my Etsy Shop. I was going to call it Abstract 1, and at the last minute, Birth Of A Butterfly popped into my currently overtaxed mind...If anyone would like to suggest another title, I'd truly love to know what you come up with. 

This is a smaller version of my larger Paintings From "The Zone Series" which you can entertain yourself and view in this YOUTUBE VIDEO. It was fairly difficult to paint this piece. I am not used to working with acrylic paint and especially in a small format 'Zone" painting. It felt a bit confining.

This is one of the first 'daily' small paintings I created. It is rendered with acrylic paint which I don't use much. I decided on acrylic because of the large amount of black in the background which would have made painting in oils tedius. Black takes much longer to dry than most other colors and would have been difficult to paint over.

The top picture is the one that is true to the actual colors. The bottom one is showing up here quite faded. I was in a lighthearted mood when I created this painting. The inspiration for the fish came from a piece of decorative fabric and the turtle is from my imagination. The hearts were an afterthought when I felt the painting needed more than the violet background. Purple/violet and red are two of my favorite colors. Hope it brings a smile to your face...

This painting has two notches on the back which make it easy to hang with just a small nail. It can be hung either vertically or horizontally. I painted it vertically, but think it looks just fine horizontally as well. 

I painted 'Cosmic Blossoms' in response to the Daily Painters International Challenge Blog. The challenge for April was to create a painting with stripes. The DPI Challenge Blog is connected to the Daily Painters International Art Gallery (DPIAG) of which I am a member. It was founded and created by an amazing artist, K.Madison Moore who has become a good friend. 

Although an invitation is required to participate with  DPIAG, all artists are invited to participate in the monthly painting challenge. May's challenge is 'Fringe.' Check it out at the link above, if you are interested in joining us.

Well,folks, this is the last in the series of paintings from "The Zone." I've been a bit distracted lately and haven't painted as much as I'd like. I'm preparing to exhibit this series for the first time next month in its entirety. I'll also be exhibiting some of my small daily paintings. I've found some great small plein air frames to dress them up in and the gallery owner is quite happy to display them as well.

Another painting full of surprises for me. The masks/faces in this one seem ominous, don't they? I'm keeping this brief tonight. We had a power failure and everything came to a screeching halt for a few hours and I've got to catch up...and...paint.

I really love painting hearts. It makes me feel happy and...they are so easy to paint. I'm thinking about painting an entire piece with just hearts. Busy day today...I have a painting class in the morning, will pick up my granddaughter afterward and deliver paintings to two galleries for group exhibits, lunch, and off to do some fun back to school clothes shopping.

One of the blogs I post with, Daily Painter's International Art Gallery has decided to offer the first seven days in each month as 'sale' days for artists who want to offer their paintings at reduced prices. I'll be posting another painting 'on sale' later today when I return.
