Now wouldn't this make an unusual and unforgettable surprise gift for your valentine? Candy is eaten, forgotten, and gone forever.  Flowers wither and die...and remind us where we are all headed.  Jewelry, oh well...that's always good I suppose, but often predictable and easy to lose.  A one of a kind creation,  viewed daily as a reminder of you,  is a lot more impressive...

This luscious plum is posed on a vibrant colorful fabric I was fortunate to unearth at a local fabric shop. I found a few great fabrics recently and will be choosing models from the market to place on them soon.

I titled this painting "Love That Plum" because I love this plum. I think it is the best plum I've ever painted and one of my favorite fruits to eat. We are in 'plum' season again and I am really hoping to hit the jackpot and find one with a leaf still attached. Maybe I'll get lucky...they are difficult to come by.

The background for this painting is a swatch of fabric I found at a local fabric shop.

A bit of plum knowledge here...Did you know that plums may have been one of the first fruits domesticated by humans? Three of the most abundant cultivars are found only around human settlements and not in the wild. Plum remains have been found in Neolithic age archaeological sites along with olives, grapes and figs...

Here is the third and last of the little paintings I discovered tucked away and not posted. It is another attempt to paint 'fast and loose.' Perhaps I should live my life faster and looser too? Well, maybe not the faster, come to think about it. I'm speedy enough. 'Looser' might be more interesting. At the moment, I have a non-loose large still life painting on the easel crying to be finished. I've been distracted with getting paintings and prints prepared for Frankie Flores Gallery, spring clean up and taking care of little details around the house to keep it up to snuff while it is on the market for sale...
.....and the huge project of re-doing the 'Available Paintings' section at my website.

I've painted a few other plums on this fabric pattern in the past which have all sold. I love painting the deep red, burgundy and violet colors of the plum.

I haven't painted since moving the paintings and equipment from my studio on Beekman St. back home. I'm never quite 'right' unless I am painting consistently. The challenge has been to reintegrate everything into my studio here and keep it looking fairly organized until my house sells...not an easy task. I plodded along earlier today for a few hours, took a nap, and am exquisitely procrastinating getting back in there. Wish I could just wave a magic wand and have it all done....

I am planning to have an Open Studio here November 12 & 13. I will provide more details as we get closer. Hope to see some of you there!

The color pink is said to represent love, a childlike nature, innocence, friendship. Pink is usually thought to be a feminine color while blue, is thought to be a masculine color. Many years ago (I forgot the source now but never forgot the report) I read that baby boys thrive more with the color pink and baby girls thrive more with the color blue... did we get it backwards??? The green in this painting is the typical color that represents healing.  Love and healing...doesn't get better than that!

Today's Quotation: "For one human being to love another: that is perhapsthe most difficult of our tasks; the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation."

I think the overhead perspective on this painting is interesting. The fabric backdrop is one of my favorites and I'm sure I'll be using it again. I can get compulsive and need to discipline myself to wait a while so things don't get redundant.

I am working on a book of my Angel Paintings with Blurb.Com. It will contain an inspirational quotation with each image. I'm very enthused about it. It is hard to believe that with a few clicks of the mouse, you can create and publish a book! In the meantime, Visit MY WEBSITE for specials on Greeting Cards of my Angel Paintings, YouTube Videos and more!

Here is the link to my NEWSLETTER announcing my Open Studio, Sunday, Nov. 22, from 1-4 pm. You will find a beautiful healing passage by Plotinus and a resource for healing CD's.

Oh, Groan...I've spent a good part of today filling out paperwork and preparing paintings for an exhibit at Broadway Art Center in Albany, NY. I'll post more when the exhibit is up and running. My studio heater has been broken and it's too cold to paint. The repair man is here as I write. I did manage lunch with my daugher, Joy, and a walk around Saratoga Springs in the sun which was wonderful. Found some tiny frames and can't wait to paint something to fill them.

Another painting of a plum on the same decorative fabric I painted the other day. They would look great together hanging as a pair. I've been thinking about choosing one style and subject matter and sticking with it for a while, rather than doing my ADD thing and not knowing what to expect from myself as I walk into my studio. For example...only cosmic, space landscapes, or still life, or the 'Zone' abstract paintings...If you have a preference, leave a comment at my blog There's always a link to it below and I do appreciate all comments.

"Pretty On Pink" by Marina Petro

Artist~Marina Petro, Saratoga Springs, NY USA

Pretty On Pink
Sold

I haven't painted many plums but plan to paint more. They are one of my favorite fruits to eat and now to paint. When I'm up close to the canvas painting them, what's going thru my mind is 'you are really messing this up'...and then I step back and am usually surprised and happy with the result...particularly so here.

Today's Quotation: One of the things I learned the hard way was that it doesn't pay to get discouraged. Keeping busy and making optimism a way of life can restore your faith in yourself.

The colors in this little painting are actually richer and deeper than how it appears in this photo. I always try to get as close to the original as possible but sometimes, it just doesn't happen. These little paintings are such fun to paint, especially when my time/energy is limited. Today was one of those busy days. I'm heading into my studio now...

"Three Plums" by Marina Petro

"Three Plums"
6"x6"
Original oil on Raymar Canvas Panel
Email me to inquire about purchasing this piece.

This is a painting I did when I attended Carol Marine's wonderful workshop last month. Better late than never...My intention for the workshop was to learn to paint faster, which would hopefully make it a bit easier to keep up with the rigors of daily painting. What I found is that it is difficult to integrate new ways of doing things in the immediate. We are creatures of habit. I do like this painting though. It was more along the lines of an exercise in values and applying Carol's technique which is quite foreign to me. It involved simply putting down your color and not going over or blending anything. I am accustomed to blending my colors on the canvas which was a no no. I am happy I attended and we'll see how it all washes out...

Today's Quotation: "Men judge us by the success of our efforts. God looks at the efforts themselves."
