I've been very busy today following my intuition and clearing up a few things I had no intention of dealing with when I woke up this morning. I have a backlog of new paintings I need to scan so I can post them. About today's painting...when I finished it I didn't think I did a good job on the limes. I was working too close to it. I put it aside, took a long break and when I came back it was if I was seeing it through new eyes...I really like it now.

Today's Quotation: "Painting is dancing with chaos."

"Camouflage II" by Marina Petro

"Camouflage II"
6"x 8" oil on Raymar canvas panel
SOLD

Another citrus painting on one of my favorite decorative fabrics. Painting these still life pieces has been such a joy as well as a tremendous learning experience. Prior to making the commitment to daily painting and producing these small works, most of what I painted was primarily from my imagination...such as yesterday's post. Quite a radical change...

"Lemon" by Marina Petro

"Lemon"
6"x 8" original oil on canvas panel
Email me to inquire about purchasing this piece.

I was fortunate to find lemon leaves at the local supermarket florist to use in this painting. We don't have any lemon trees here in upstate NY. I've been thinking about growing a lemon and orange tree indoors so I can have the 'real thing' handy. I saw a thriving orange tree at a local Chinese restaurant...

Every new painting is a challenge. I didn't think I did a 'good job' with this one until I got some distance from it. The little highlights on the limes looked 'just wrong' as I was painting close up but continued to paint until I was exhausted and completed the painting. I walked away from it for a few hours and when I viewed it again from a bit of distance, it was just peachy ...the highlights sparkle...and I'm happy.

Well, folks, I've had a significant block trying to think of a jazzy title for this painting. Obviously, I didn't come up with one. If you can think of another title leave a comment at my blog or email me. It's not too late for me to change it as this is it's debut and I haven't posted it at my website yet.

I did publish my Art + Intuition Newsletter yesterday. Maybe that took all the jazz I had. I'm not too talkative today. Spent time I'd rather be painting at Physical Therapy for a really painful leg and then at the dentist to get my teeth shiny and white. I could have written today's quotation...I'm off to take a nap now...

Today's Quotation: "I do not pursue art. It pursues me. It dogs me throughout my day and never rests. It is the beast I must feed that is never content. I did not choose to be an artist, to create, to express what is in my head. It chose me and I am its slave."

"TELLING SECRETS" by Marina Petro

"Telling Secrets"
5x7 inch
Original oil painting on canvas panel
Sold

I'm very happy with this painting. The background is a piece of fabric which I am sure I will use again. It's so vibrant...lifts my mood when I view it. I just love painting these small paintings.

I am in Westford, MA at the moment enthusiastically waiting to attend Carol Marine's daily painting workshop tomorrow through Wednesday. Carol is one of the original 'Daily Painters.' She has been faithfully painting and posting a painting a day since October, 2006...and she also paints larger pieces for exhibitions and galleries. It blows my mind! It's what I aspire to but life hasn't cooperated...or perhaps, I need to reorganize my time/activities...we'll see. I'll take pictures and keep you posted.

Today's Quotation: "There is no greater joy than that of feeling oneself a creator. The triumph of life is expressed by creation."
-Henri Bergson
