AUTUMN MIST~Autumn Fall Landscape Oil Painting Forest Trees Mist by Marina Petro

I painted this piece from a photograph and memory of landscapes such as this as I was driving around the autumn countryside. Observers have commented that this painting is 'haunting' and 'mysterious.' It certainly does convey the atmosphere of late autumn. The trees in the misty background were painted darker first, allowed to dry, and then glazed over lightly and carefully with white paint.  There have been times when I've used white paint to paint into parts of a painting (usually a landscape) that just wasn't working. What I discovered was that it would create a mysterious mist that added to the beauty of the painting.

Thought I'd post this piece today. I've begun watching the series "True Blood" on DVD...you know the one...about vampires and shape shifters. This scene looked like the perfect roaming ground for vampires. I think I might trade in my human sweetheart, who is retired, and spends a lot of time at home during the day for a new vampire boyfriend. They sleep all day...and he'd understand why I need to check out by 11 pm...

Observers have described this painting as 'haunting' and 'mysterious.' What do you think? It was painted from a photograph. This scene is a common view here in upstate NY, both in late fall and winter when there is no snow on the ground.

"Dusk" (completed) by Marina Petro

"Dusk"
16"x20"
Original oil on stretched canvas
Email me to inquire about purchasing this piece.

I posted "Dusk" in process last week. I happily finished the painting today. It is difficult to describe the feeling whenever I finish a painting, whether small or large. In part, it is a sense of relief, satisfaction, a great exhale-as if I were holding my breath, closure of a mystery...yes...a mystery because I never really know what will manifest on the canvas. It's truly a great adventure...at least for me...

"AUTUMN MIST RISING" -by Marina Petro

Hi again. Here is the finished painting "Autumn Mist Rising." I am glad it's finished and happy with the results. I'm always glad when a painting is finished so I can get on to the adventure of the next one! Painting is an obsession with me as it probably is with most artists. I would be ecstatic if I could just paint without other survival related concerns that take time and energy. A friend of mine recently suggested that I need a wife...

I was expressing my view on painting and creative endeavors to someone the other day. She (and many others) diminish the value of creativity, putting it into the low rung of life's priorities even though they have strong urges to create. This person happened to be a psychotherapist who is spiritually motivated in service to others. I expressed that when one is channeling their creativity they are as close to the "Creator" as one can get. When you are in the act of creating you are in synch with the same consciousness that created all that is. It flows through your entire being. That's my opinion and what I experience.

Today's Quotation: "Intuitive artists are messengers. Their symbolic vocabulary originates from the infinite wisdom of higher spheres, in a non-referential time/space continuum..."

"AUTUMN MIST RISING" -in process-by Marina Petro

"Autumn Mist Rising" Painting in Process
18x24 oil on stretched canvas

I am working on this larger painting and almost finished. I have a gallery show coming up in September and was asked if I'd be willing to paint a few autumn scenes. I am happily complying. I love autumn....and will get some great new shots this year...although I am hoping it takes it's time. This summer is flying by and I haven't done anything 'summery' yet. I'll be posting the finished version very soon.
