I began this painting a few years ago. At the time, I thought I was close to finishing it when I put it aside. Something was nagging me about it but I couldn't put my finger on it. The yellows and the streams of yellow light just weren't right...either in the color or shapes. I didn't have the patience or inclination to continue painting...simply lost interest. It was hidden behind a few other paintings in my storage room upstairs. I unearthed it recently, softened the yellows and fixed up the streams of light...now I'm very happy with it. 

I won't be posting any paintings this weekend. I will be presenting my MASTER YOUR INTUITION Workshop Saturday and Sunday in Saratoga Springs, NY. I am open to taking last minute registrations (thru tomorrow-Friday)...so, if you are interested in  discovering and developing your latent natural intuitive/psychic gifts, contact me...

This painting is part of my 20 piece exhibit "Heaven & Earth" taking place at the SARATOGA SPRINGS VISITOR'S CENTER now through May. "Evidence Of Angels" was painted spontaneously from my imagination. I intended to paint a skyscape with clouds. I began dipping my brush into the colors that initially attracted me and continuing to paint in this fashion. The painting reached a point where I thought it might be finished but something kept nagging at me that it wasn't....I took a deep breath, picked up my brush, dipped it in the white cloud color by higher angel and just dragged the color around to create the angel. One wasn't enough so I decided to put the second one in down further. So that's how this was born...

This beautiful work was created from a photo my daughter, Andrea, took on the grounds of  the Yaddo Artist Retreat in Saratoga Springs, NY...my current home town.

It's not possible to appreciate the beauty of this painting from the photographs. My ongoing attempts to improve my painting skills and patience culminated in this painting. Notice the little heart shape just above the leaves toward the bottom right...this is actually how this spark of light appeared in the original photograph! Amazing, isn't it! I like to think it represents the love I have for my daughters and granddaughter, who are my greatest blessings in this life.

This painting is leaving home for the month of May to be exhibited at The Saratoga Visitor's Center in Saratoga Springs, NY along with twenty of my other paintings. Stop in if you're in town. They would love to see you.

This is one of the first 'daily' small paintings I created. It is rendered with acrylic paint which I don't use much. I decided on acrylic because of the large amount of black in the background which would have made painting in oils tedius. Black takes much longer to dry than most other colors and would have been difficult to paint over.

I've fallen in love with pears...and lemons...since I began still life painting in this small "daily painters" format over the past few years. Pears, especially, seem to have personalities...can't say the same for lemons though. 

I hadn't painted many still life works prior to my affiliation with the Daily Painters....although the ones I did paint were surprisingly pleasurable and I was very happy with the outcome. It was difficult to discipline myself, set up a still life, and focus on external objects to paint. I'd usually opt for painting spontaneously, intuitively and surprise myself with whatever appeared on the canvas. In any case, I'm glad I've added this dimension to my art...and...I am gradually learning to exercise patience...very very gradually.  They say the astrological sign of Aries was behind the door when patience was being handed out...

I've updated my website shop at IMAGEKIND earlier today. Take a look...Many of my paintings are available as prints on canvas and paper in a large variety of sizes. You can also make greeting cards there!

I began this painting without an intention for a subject. As it progressed I initially thought the sunflower was turning into the sun but when I began putting in the 'rays' it took on more of the form of a sunflower. Love these surprises...

The top picture is the one that is true to the actual colors. The bottom one is showing up here quite faded. I was in a lighthearted mood when I created this painting. The inspiration for the fish came from a piece of decorative fabric and the turtle is from my imagination. The hearts were an afterthought when I felt the painting needed more than the violet background. Purple/violet and red are two of my favorite colors. Hope it brings a smile to your face...

Painted with passion and great energy. I didn't have anything in mind when I began this painting, but I knew I wanted to use fiery, hot colors...so...I just dipped my brush in the darkest colors first and began painting around three edges and bringing the color down throughout other sections of the painting spontaneously. The next step was gradually bringing in the lighter colors and blending them into the darker sections. It is such a freeing experience to paint in this way...try it!

Another product from a recent astral journey and my fertile imagination. I don't know what others experience when they are 'in their head' but this is what I experience:  I perceive my head to be the universe...really...as if my head is the part of me that lives in space. I actually see the inside of my head as you would picture the universe filled with unlimited space and celestial bodies.  I am a fairly grounded person though...no space cadet here...Take a look...What's inside your head?

I love the rich deep color of plums. Did you know that plums are a member of the rose family? When dried, they are referred to as prunes, which are helpful for regulating digestion. Recently in the United States, prune marketers have begun to refer to prunes as 'dried plums' due to the negative connotation  of the elderly dealing with constipation...just a bit of trivia here...

The fabric background used here was a lucky find. I've got to leave town to find any decent fabric for my paintings. We used to have a few fabric shops in Saratoga Springs, but they disappeared when the local mall was expanded.

This painting was more difficult than I anticipated it would be. I've discovered that peppers are quite challenging to paint...at least for me. All the while I was painting, a little voice (my inner critic) was saying..."you're really messing this one up." .....but when I finally stepped away from the canvas, I was surprised and pleased with the result.

This little celestial skyscape was just plain fun to paint. I began by swirling colors around this miniature canvas until they began to take form. Added the full moon at the very end. I wasn't sure whether it was going to be a seascape or skyscape at one point.

I've painted apples and pears on this polka dot fabric before. It's the lemons turn now. I don't know what it is about this fabric, but it cheers me up. I'm not a fan of polka dots by any means.  I don't have one piece of clothing with polka dots, but I like this fabric.  The other paintings were quite a bit easier than this one. Strange, I never know what I will encounter with each painting. The first time I thought I'd completed it, I put it aside for a while because the shadow to the right was bothering me. It looked 'dirty.' I decided to work on it some more when it was dry by glazing a bit more violet into the shadow and lightening up the bottom right corner. Now it is acceptable....

From a celestial journey I took quite some time ago.....

This painting had been sold way back in December to a collector in England. She never received it and decided on another small celestial landscape she planned to present to her daughter on her birthday. The second one made it there problem free and just in time. I had a 'feeling' that the painting would be returned to me at some point and...much to my surprise, when I went to the post office this morning, there it was...well traveled but in pristine condition...

This painting has two notches on the back which make it easy to hang with just a small nail. It can be hung either vertically or horizontally. I painted it vertically, but think it looks just fine horizontally as well. 

I painted 'Cosmic Blossoms' in response to the Daily Painters International Challenge Blog. The challenge for April was to create a painting with stripes. The DPI Challenge Blog is connected to the Daily Painters International Art Gallery (DPIAG) of which I am a member. It was founded and created by an amazing artist, K.Madison Moore who has become a good friend. 

Although an invitation is required to participate with  DPIAG, all artists are invited to participate in the monthly painting challenge. May's challenge is 'Fringe.' Check it out at the link above, if you are interested in joining us.

This painting was quite the challenge! It took several sessions to complete. When there is a considerable amount of white and black in a painting such as this, I have to wait a couple of days in between sessions for each of these slow drying colors to set enough to paint over or into them.

Did you know the hibiscus flower can universally mean that it is a nice summer? In Europe, during the Victorian era and up to today, the meaning of the hibiscus flower is "delicate beauty." It is the state flower of Hawaii and generally given to visiting state officials. It's symbolizes Old Royalty and is a flower that brings power and respect. In Japan, it's meaning is "gentle."

I''ve been caring for a hibiscus tree on my sun porch for about 14 years now. It blooms often with the most beautiful bright red flowers. There are three other perennial hibuscus bushes planted next to my deck. They flower each August with blossoms that are 12 inches or more in diameter. A glorious sight I look forward to each year.

The picture representing this painting does not do it justice. It looks great in my photo editing software but when I post it here it loses some of its luster.  I began painting this piece with nothing in mind and just began 'fooling around' with color...and...another angel was born...
