Oil on Panel

Insurance included in shipping charge.

This is the first time I've ever painted cherries. It was fun...easier than I thought it would would be and...they were delicious! I wanted to experiment with less structure and a grey background. I've thought of noting the colors I use in some of my plainer backgrounds to have as a handy reference. Most are done spontaneously and the ones I really like are difficult to reproduce.

Every new painting is a challenge. I didn't think I did a 'good job' with this one until I got some distance from it. The little highlights on the limes looked 'just wrong' as I was painting close up but continued to paint until I was exhausted and completed the painting. I walked away from it for a few hours and when I viewed it again from a bit of distance, it was just peachy ...the highlights sparkle...and I'm happy.

Today's Quotation: "Painting is dancing with chaos."

I added some polka dots and more flowers to the fabric pattern in this painting. Boy, it is occasionally difficult to come up with a name for each painting. I love it when a 'catchy' title pops into my head but nothing appeared for this one. Hope you enjoy viewing it...now I'm going to have dinner and go into my studio to paint.

"FANTASY GARDEN" by Marina Petro

Fantasy Garden

Oil on Panel
$150 plus $10 shipping and handling in the US
E-mail me for International shipping rates or other inquiries.

Insurance is included in shipping charges. This painting is on 1/4" canvas textured board. It has a notch in the back which allows for hanging without a frame.

Isn't variety the spice of life? Fantasy Garden was a refreshing flight into the freedom of spontaneous, intuitive painting. I'm beginning to understand my pattern of painting a little better now as I continue to paint these small paintings. I usually have a larger canvas I'm working on...that is a given. Then, there are my little still life paintings, most of which are fairly structured....and then....out of the blue, I get the strongest impulse to just cut free and paint whatever happens. I pick up my brush and begin to move paint around the canvas....never quite knowing what the end result will be.

Today's Quotation: "That's the artist's role - to strike out always for something new, to break away, to defy, to... grapple with the unfamiliar." -Brian Aldiss

"POLKA DOT APPLE" by Marina Petro

Polka Dot Apple
SOLD

Happy Birthday to me! I'm glad to be alive, considering the alternative. My mind is touching upon all the blessings in my life and I am grateful.

"Polka Dot Apple" is the third painting I've done with this fabric and there will probably be more to come. The first two were with pears, which are my favorite fruit to paint.

I visited our local apple orchard's little country store Tuesday to look for apple models with leaves attached....found a really cute one but by the time I got home it had shifted position in the beverage holder and the leaf fell off. I couldn't even crazy glue it back on. I did learn, with great excitement, though, that they have a few pear trees in the orchard so I will finally be able to paint pears with their leaves (and maybe branches) still attached when they are in season. I'm happy...simple pleasures...

Today's Quotation: "Composer, sculptor, painter, poet, prophet, sage – these are the makers of the after-world, the architects of heaven. The world is beautiful because they have lived. Without them, laboring humanity would perish."

"GLOWING PEAR" by Marina Petro

Glowing Pear
8" x 6" (20.4cm x 15.3cm)
SOLD

Or email me for other purchasing options.

Another painting on one of my favorite fabrics. The pear seems to glow. It is probably more noticeable in person than in this photo. The canvas panel it is painted on has a very smooth surface. It accepts paint in a much different way than the rougher surface canvas which seems to 'grab' the paint. I like working on both surfaces. Each has it's own qualities.

"Persimmons & Pears"
16"x20" Oil on canvas

A bit more complicated still life than I usually undertake. It was a challenge keeping 'my place' while painting the design on the fabric. I will be painting another small piece with this fabric soon...most likely without the folds.

In yesterday's post I asked for suggestions for another title for "Yellow Napkin" (below) Thanks to Rob Hazzard, another daily painter,it is now "Happy Hour."

Well, folks, I've had a significant block trying to think of a jazzy title for this painting. Obviously, I didn't come up with one. If you can think of another title leave a comment at my blog or email me. It's not too late for me to change it as this is it's debut and I haven't posted it at my website yet.

I did publish my Art + Intuition Newsletter yesterday. Maybe that took all the jazz I had. I'm not too talkative today. Spent time I'd rather be painting at Physical Therapy for a really painful leg and then at the dentist to get my teeth shiny and white. I could have written today's quotation...I'm off to take a nap now...

Today's Quotation: "I do not pursue art. It pursues me. It dogs me throughout my day and never rests. It is the beast I must feed that is never content. I did not choose to be an artist, to create, to express what is in my head. It chose me and I am its slave."

I really liked the shape of the shadows on the wall in this painting, as well as the leaf on the red apple and the very long stem on the pear. I don't know what other people get really excited about but when I find a piece of fruit that is a bit more unusual or anything with a leaf on it, I get so excited and can't wait to get them home to paint. I'm jealous of you folks who live in more temperate climates and can pick your fruit right off the trees. My usual trip to the supermarket involves going thru the fruit bins, picking up possible models, finding a flat surface to see how they sit/fit together...

I completed this painting a very long time ago. It hasn't been displayed much and is still very happily hanging around here. I thought the flowers were going to be very difficult to paint but as it turned out, they were easier than anticipated and I think they turned out pretty well. I've been busy planning a few intuition and painting workshops and will most likely be sending out a newsletter tomorrow...so, I've got to run and finish up so I can get into my studio and do what I most love to do.....paint!

I am enjoying painting fruit on colorful fabrics. I've been scouring the house for interesting fabric patterns and found quite a few which include some of my clothing. I'm happy with this painting. It's so bright and to lifts my energy when I view it. Generally, the color red denotes high energy/vitality and green represents healing and prosperity. See you again real soon...

Painted on a smooth textured board which is notched in the back for easy hanging without a frame. Email me for other purchasing options.

I have been experimenting with a variety of surfaces for these smaller paintings. Each surface provides a new experience and different effect. This is a smooth surface which simulates canvas. Colors blended quite easily. This painting was completed fairly rapidly...only one sitting which is not usual for me...great when it happens though. My inspiration was, once again, my imagination. I hope you enjoy it. Your comments are welcomed...just click on my blog link below to leave a comment. Actually your comments are much appreciated. "The Phoenix Collection" ... Marina Petro

"The Phoenix Collection" of fine wines
Last year, Sal Maiolatesi, owner of Maiolatesi Wine Cellars in Pennsylvania emailed me requesting permission to use the image of my "Phoenix Rising" painting for a special, limited edition, wine collection. Sal's winery burned to the ground in a devastating fire. The phoenix was chosen to represent resurrection from the ashes and new life. They are rebuilding and the "Phoenix Collection" has been born. If you would like to purchase the collection of three wines, email Sal at sal@maiolatesiwines.com for more information. There's a possibility that it can be shipped to you, depending on the state you reside in.

The phoenix is one of the more powerful symbols of renewal and rebirth. It is defined as a mythical bird of great beauty fabled to live 500 or 600 years in the Arabian wilderness, to burn itself on a funeral pyre, and to rise from its ashes in the freshness of youth and live through another cycle of years: often an emblem of immortality or of reborn idealism or hope. Very fitting for these times...

The original painting was sold many years ago. If you would like a print, here are a couple of options:
A beautiful 20" x 30" Giclee print on stretched canvas. Looks just like the original on canvas.
$295.....3 weeks delivery....email me (link below) for more details.

Now I am going to resurrect myself from this computer and fly into my studio to paint.

"Sunflower Still Life"
16x20 inches
Original oil on stretched canvas
Purchase for $295 at eBay or email me for other purchasing options.

This is an older painting I completed a few years ago. It was hanging around my studio quite invisible and I thought I'd make it happy by giving it a day in the sun. Actually, today is one of the very, very rare days we've had sun here in the northeast. It's been quite cold, dreary and draining...day after day. I am looking forward to planting sunflowers again in my garden.

NOTE: This might be the second and complete post you receive from me today. I clicked the wrong button and the first one was published before I finished it...

I was moving my fruit models around on the counter trying to decide on a composition and which ones to choose when these two cuties took this pose. The painting and title were immediately decided on.

This has been one of those extreme technologically challenging days and I can't wait to get away from this computer. It began with trying to figure out Squidoo to make a lens (I was not successful) and ended with a very familiar application giving me major problems and just about freezing my computer...that's where I stopped, decided to post this painting and then hide in my studio away from the rest of the world....see you soon again.

Sold

This little orange was waiting for me to find it at our local grocery store. It was much more colorful than it's neighbors and I had to take it home to paint. The paintings on decorative fabric always take more than one day/sitting to complete.

"DESTINATION MARS" by Marina Petro

"Destination Mars"
5x7 inches
$99 + shipping
Original oil painting on Gessobord
Purchase at my ebay store or email me for other purchasing options
Here is another painting from my imagination. It flowed fairly well...no big struggle here. The biggest struggle was with naming it. I kept coming up with titles I'd already used with prior cosmic landscapes....then I recalled a newscast reporting the discovery of possible water on Mars, soil that has similarities to ours and the possibility of life.

The quote below reflects one of the reasons I keep painting...

"IN THE BEGINNING" by Marina Petro

"In The Beginning"
30x40 Oil on stretched canvas
Prints are available matted or on paper. Email me for details.

This painting recently sold. It was one of the few remaining larger cosmic type pieces I had hanging around my studio. It's absence is motivating me to paint another. It is a very freeing experience when I create a painting from my imagination. The finished piece is always a surprise...a very different experience vs. painting from life or from a photograph. I've got one large canvas on hand and have been 'seeing' either another cosmic scene or a larger angel painting being born...perhaps a large garden with light streaming in. I pray for the energy to be able to continue to paint all the images that pass thru my mind.

Today is the day we begin to paint in the workshop I am attending with Carol Marine and I am so looking forward it. I'll keep you posted...

"Ladybug"
6x6 inches
Oil on Raymar Canvas Panel
$100
Purchase at eBay here

I've been on the phone with my printer and then computer help lines for over two hours and my brain is scrambled. It has seriously cut into my painting time. It seems the more I want to be in my studio painting, the more events come out of left field to absorb time and energy. It's just wrong! ...as my granddaughter would say.

I love painting pears and I especially like this painting. I'd finished the two pears and for a moment or two decided the painting was finished...but...it seemed like it needed something else. I flipped open my imagination and out popped a ladybug...the image delighted me and I painted her in. Hope you enjoy viewing it.

5x7 inch
Original oil painting on canvas panel
Sold

I'm very happy with this painting. The background is a piece of fabric which I am sure I will use again. It's so vibrant...lifts my mood when I view it. I just love painting these small paintings.

I am in Westford, MA at the moment enthusiastically waiting to attend Carol Marine's daily painting workshop tomorrow through Wednesday. Carol is one of the original 'Daily Painters.' She has been faithfully painting and posting a painting a day since October, 2006...and she also paints larger pieces for exhibitions and galleries. It blows my mind! It's what I aspire to but life hasn't cooperated...or perhaps, I need to reorganize my time/activities...we'll see. I'll take pictures and keep you posted.
