From "The Zone" #28 still in progress...
I'm still working on this really fun 24" x 30" painting. Getting a bit more used to using acrylic paint on canvas. Still not sure whether I like it or not. Acrylic does have it's advantage, as rendering these in oil would be extremely difficult. Hopefully I'll have it completed in a few days. It's been difficult to stop on this one. I keep seeing areas that I want to decorate more and more....little dots, planets, hearts...These paintings are mindless and mindful at the same time. One of the most relaxing forms of painting I've ever experienced. Moment to moment discovery! I'm curious to see how the final piece turns out. I'll be giving a workshop next month on "Painting From The Zone."
If you click on the link, be sure to check out my other Zone Paintings in my Art Gallery link.
I'm also working on a commissioned piece as well as waiting for a painting I did of the lunar eclipse a few days ago to dry before I can finish it up.
Thought I'd give my subscribers from the warmer states a real treat! This is a photo of what we have on the ground now in upstate NY and what we are expecting 12 inches more tonight and through tomorrow. Are you jealous yet?
Today's Quotation: "I paint for my mental health. It is a lot cheaper than seeing a therapist, and a lot more fun."

NOTE: I posted this painting yesterday (Tuesday) and am posting it again because I've gotten notices that subscribers were having some problems receiving my posts. I changed a setting which might have created the problem. Hopefully it is fixed now.
I really wanted to post a new painting but...toilet overflowed and I thought I lost my tax records for this year...lots of phone calls I needed to get back to and I need a nap now so I'm posting an older painting again.
This is yet another painting from my imagination...sort of. One night about 26 years ago as I was lying in bed with my eyes closed (not asleep) the image of the most beautiful woman I could ever imagine appeared to me out of the darkness. She was glowing in light in red-orange garb. The expression on her face was pure love, like nothing I'd ever seen or experienced before...and yet to. "The Oracle" was my first attempt years later to do her justice from memory. I didn't capture her essence though. If I did, I wouldn't have sold the original painting. Perhaps when and if I evolve more I will try again...
For you local folks, I have a new exhibit at "Ultra Violet Cafe" next to the Spectrum Theatre in Albany, NY. Stop by if you're in town.
Today's Quote: "You always do what you want to do. This is true with every act. You may say that you had to do something, or that you were forced to,
but actually, whatever you do, you do by choice.
Only you have the power to choose for yourself."

"SILENCE" by Marina Petro
"Silence"
16x20 inch
Original Oil on Stretched Canvas
Email me (link below)for purchasing options
This is a scene a short distance from my home in Saratoga Springs, NY. The foreground is a pond which cannot be detected because it's covered with snow. I was out a bit later in the afternoon when the sun was going down. I was struck by the beauty of the landscape. Good thing I had my trusty camera.
I wanted to post this image today and quickly came up with the title "Silence" which I'm not 100 percent satisfied with. Does anyone out there have any ideas about another title? I'd love to hear from you!

Another painting from my imagination. I was going to take photos of my new work today and post a new painting. When I turned my camera on it indicated the battery was low and that was the end of that! I began painting a new floral today and taking a short break now to keep in touch.
Here's a real treat for all of you. My daughter, Yvonne, just sent me this link. Click here and have fun creating your own work of art! Click anywhere on the page or just click and run your mouse all over.

"COSMIC SERPENT" by Marina Petro
"Cosmic Serpent"
Original oil painting on gallery wrapped canvas
30x40 inches
Email me for purchasing options
The original painting did not have a serpent. Every time I looked at the painting I felt it still needed something (you might not agree) and I jumped in holding my breath and painted the serpent. She (I assume it's a she) doesn't look too threatening even though she's spitting a little fire. I love the firey section on the upper left with the planet that appears to be being born from it. Hope you enjoy viewing it!
I'm posting an older painting today. I am tired... gave a workshop this morning and am at war with a cold...I am winning and glad for that.
Today's Quotations: “Adam blamed Eve, Eve blamed the serpent and the serpent didn't have a leg to stand on”
-I don't know who wrote this...found it on a quote site without an author.

"ZONE SERIES" No. 28-in Progress by Marina Petro
From "The Zone" Series No. 28-work in progress
24x30 inches
Acrylic on stretched canvas
Happy Valentines Day!
Thought I'd share the progress of my latest painting from the zone. It still has quite a way to go but I hope to finish it soon. Hopefully, I'll get more of a grip on life's little interruptions and master the science of organizing time and energy.
I first began painting these more abstract works as an experiment on paper with tempera paint. I liked working in this way but when I saw the direction they were going and feedback from others I wanted a more permanent painting. I decided to use acrylic on smooth canvas which is not as conducive to the freedom I want to experience in these paintings. I don't particularly like acrylic paint. It doesn't have the sensual quality of oil paint I am accustomed to. So, I'm looking for another ground and possibly another medium to use. In part, the freedom I experience when painting these is that I don't mix colors. I use them straight from the tube and just apply the paint as 'the spirit moves me.' It's a wonderful experience...freeing...mindless and mindful simultaneously. Meditative.
Anyway, it's Valentines Day and this one has a few hearts in it so I thought it would be a good time to post it.
Today's Quote: "Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire."

"HEARTS & FLOWERS" by Marina Petro
"Hearts & Flowers"
6x6 inch acrylic on gessobord
$75http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif
This painting is an experiment to see if I could paint from "The Zone" in a smaller format. It wasn't easy. My "Zone" paintings are usually larger and allow more freedom of movement in general. I might try more of these small ones but not any time soon...at least I don't think so. Painting in acrylic is also quite new for me. I love oil paint but it is not conducive to this type painting.
I'm giving my first "Painting From The Zone" workshop on April 26 in Saratoga Springs, NY if any subscribers to this blog are interested in attending.

This large product of my fertile imagination is the companion to "Astral Journey 1" that was posted the other day. I painted it outdoors several years ago. As I was struggling with a title for it my daughter, Andrea, drove up and immediately suggested "The Coming Of..." She said it seemed to portend something...

"Astral Journey 1"
48" x 60" original oil painting on heavy duty gallery wrapped stretched canvas
If you are interested in purchasing the original, please email me.
Double Matted prints are available at the special price of $49 + $8 shipping.
I painted this piece a few years ago from my imagination. It's always such a surprise when I have nothing in mind and just begin to apply paint to canvas. I wonder if this cosmic landscape exists somewhere 'out there.' What do you think? I've posted an older painting today to stay in touch. I am looking forward to when I can post a new painting close to daily...

"APPLE ON A PLATE" by Marina Petro
"Apple On A Plate"
6x8 inches
Original oil painting on Raymar Canvas Panel
$99
Purchase at ebay here
Or email me for other purchasing options
I'm happy with how this painting turned out. The fabric the plate and apple are on is one of my favorites. I'm sure I'll use it again and again.
I'm very happy to announce that I've licensed my "Phoenix Rising" painting to a winery in Pennsylvania. Their establishment burned to the ground in September. They are rebuilding this spring and hope to reopen in August. The image of the phoenix is going to be used in a special promotion of three wines packaged as "The Phoenix Collection."
I mentioned in a previous post that I had a 20" x 30" giclee on canvas of the phoenix rising printed for a customer. It was just beautiful. Much better than I ever expected. If you are interested in purchasing or inquiring about this magnificent image, please email me. I painted it years ago and still feel it's healing and strengthening qualities emanating whenever I view it. The original is in a private collection.
Today's Quotation: "I would rather be ashes than dust! I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry rot. I would rather be a superb meteor, every atom of me in magnificent glow, than a sleepy and permanent planet. The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days in trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."
